The Watch and The Diamond Ring

Shiny Emotional Things

“I like your watch,” she said, while pulling my left wrist with the brown leather timepiece towards her sexy eyes. “It’s really nice. I really like it.”

I smiled like the moon. For me, a compliment on my watch is a compliment to my being. This is because my Pa always told me that a man’s watch foreshadows a man’s belief system, style and heart. As such, I took considerable care, perseverance and patience to find my watch; cared less if I had to walk up and down, up and down, and break my legs in KLCC. But when my eyes fell upon this large rectangular shiny timepiece, with its simple dials, unbreakable glass and soft brown leather strap, I knew it was the one.

As her stunning eyes surveyed the details on my watch, I noticed a heavy shine emitting from her hand. Your ring, it’s bling bling, I said.

“It’s chunky, I knowwwww,” she squealed, her eyes now focused on her golden ring encrusted with specks of diamond. “I really, really love it. But, you must know, this is not my engagement ring.”

It’s not?

“Nope, it’s on the other hand.” She pulled her left hand onto my lap, displaying a simple white gold band with a petite diamond. “I chose this ring.”

Before my mind could quickly calculate the cost of her jewelry, she quickly said, “There were so many nicer rings. But they were just too expensive.” She surprisingly let out a deep sigh, and flickered her slender fingers to allow the small diamond catch the light coming from the lamp shades. Quickly, I noticed how her frown disappeared into a smile.

“I love him,” she said. “I really, really love him”.

And that’s when I knew that she really does.

I used to put my faith in swatch. My first watch was that big ass pop swatch. Imagine that in the hands of a 7 year old..it was as big as a plate then! My brothers and I built up quite a collection over the years.

With my first paycheck, I bought my watch. The one. Silver, no flashy numbers and ticks automatically. I might get others if it catches my eye(a watch affair?) but this one is the lasting one. Other people will only be able to take it off me when they pry it from my cold dead fingers :D

Awww...women do silly things for love :)

I love good watches too. I only graduated from my G-shock to shiny solid timepieces just a few years ago (much to my parents' relief).

I once knew this sort of well-to-do chinese indon in US. He had nice watch, Rolex... Nice shoes, Bruno Magli... nice car, 500SL... But when I had him stripped... he was wearing GIORDANO speedo type underwear! Hheehhehe. I was about to passout laughing so hard! ***obviously he didn't get lucky that night...***

I guess... I like guys with nice boxers type underwear... if ever I get that far... :-)

dude, you got a meme to do. go do! huhuhu...

sports freak :

Hahahahah...well, it started off with my dad, whom i have huge respect for his simplistic style. watches are the only piece of jewelry a man should wear (besides your wedding band), so it should be personal...

teeklebone :

and next thing you know, as mk pointed out, you will be looking at the shoes as well...hahahahha...;) you're too comel lah.

ok, when you buy a watch 1) it should atleast be water proof, and 2) if you are going to invest, buy a classic design because it will last through time. Invest in one good watch which you won't mind flashing into a meeting / wedding / date, and another casual watch which you can kick with at a club / mall / casual date which represents you. It doesn't have to be Bvlgary, Cortina, or Frank Muller; there are many cheaper alternatives with similar designs.

elina :

Congrats babe! :) Moving past G-shock is a painful thing, but why don't we pass it down to a younger brother / sister shall we? ;P

funny valentine :

bless you! ;P

ms yy :

your sexual encounters are sometimes downright hilarious! huhuhu...point taken. underwear is also very important. so, ms yy, what's your victoria secret? ;)

hahahhaha...ok, another tip (you got me going on a subject / hobby that i dig).

Don't be afraid of leather watches. Many fear leather straps because of the belief that it will smell when one sweat. This is indeed a myth. Because good calf leather won't smell or stain your wrists. In fact, i believe, a black / dark brown leather watch depicts class.

and yeah, don't ever buy any watches with crystals / diamonds on it. Let's leave them to P. Diddy and Paris Hilton wannabes.

thanks for the tip man...well currently am wearing a swatch but my biggest issue with a watch is that it's kinda easy to be scratched...and the scratch proof would cost 10 times more than what i'm wearing...now any tips beside not scratching it? :)
